Bacio - Candle 10.5oz

$ 215.00

For Piero Fornasetti, a single idea provided enough inspiration to create infinite variations. in fact, much of his work involved constant evolutions of specific themes. By allowing his imagination to roam freely Fornasetti was able to constantly reinvent or reinterpret any given image.

The most famous of these, the image that inspired Fornasetti to coin the title ‘tema e variazioni’, is the enigmatic face of a woman; the opera singer Lina Cavalieri. The archetypal classic female features and enigmatic expression of Lina Cavalieri became Fornasetti’s most frequently used template and upon which he based more than 350 variations.

'Otto' is the signature scent that was created by the master perfumer Olivier Polge, working in close collaboration with Barnaba. He captured the essence of Fornasetti by exploring the olfactory character of the family house and gardens, registering significant herbs and the woods of the interior. In the final scent, notes of thyme, lavender, orris and cedarwood evoke the personal environment, while ethereal incense notes at the base interpret the dream-like dimension of Fornasetti's graphic poetry.

  • Top Notes: Thyme, lavender
  • Middle Notes: Orris, cedarwood
  • Base Notes: Tolu balsam, incense, birch, labdanum
  • Perfumer: Olivier Polg

Balsam - Candle 7oz

$ 55.00

A refreshing and luscious marriage that combines the essence of sweet balsam, California redwood, a hint of French sage and the bouquet of white flowers. Balsam was the fragrance of Agraria's very first candle, but at the time in 1970, it was just called the “Agraria Candle.” With the introduction of the Bitter Orange candle the name was officially changed to Balsam.

Agraria's Perfume candles are presented in a decorative crystal glass that is a modern interpretation of the woven palm leaf cases that were an Agraria trademark in the 1980s.

The intricate glass pattern accentuates the movement of the flame to create a luminous and mesmerizing glow. Featuring hand-twisted lead-free wicks, each hand-poured candle is clean-burning and beautifully fragrant.

Each 7oz candle includes a silver-plate lid stamped with the Agraria crest. Approximate burning time: 30-40 hours

Bitter Orange - AirEssence Diffuser 7.4oz

$ 140.00

Bitter Orange was the fragrance of Agraria's very first product in 1970 – a handmade potpourri. This signature fragrance is a complex and subtle blend that permeates the air with addictive waves of clove, the zest of bitter orange and just a touch of cypress. It’s unique, spicy fragrance has been described by The New York Times as “uplifting, mysterious and androgynous in its appeal.”

Agraria was introduced in New York in 1975, at the front door of the original Henri Bendel’s at 10 West 57th, and each time someone opened the door, the fragrance floated out onto the sidewalk. Vogue Magazine quoted Michael Kors as saying, “I just thought 57th Street smelled like Bitter Orange.”

Agraria's next generation of AirEssence™ now diffuses through sola flowers - made one at a time - by skilled artisans using the dried peel of the tapioca plant that is sewn onto a cotton wick. In keeping with the Agraria definition of “from the earth”, sola flowers - also referred to as balsa wood flowers - are a natural material and environmentally friendly.

As the fragrant essential oils are absorbed through the cotton wick, the flower petals will change to the color of the oil as the scent diffuses into the air.

Gift boxed with a crystal glass tray and 2 sola flowers.

First tossed in sheets in the back room of the Agraria shop on Nob Hill in 1970, it's best described by The New York Times as "uplifting, mysterious and androgynous in its appeal." With roses from Bulgaria, lavender from France, rosemary from Spain and rose hips from Chile, we still hand-pack each box and decorate the top with orange slices, cinnamon sticks, and dried zinnias or hydrangeas, depending on the season. Over 35 years later, people still refer to it as "Park Avenue Potpourri."

Bouquet Flower Candle Lid (for Glass Candles)

$ 87.50

One-of-a-kind brand Astier de Villatte handcrafts its signature ceramics, glassware, and candles in an antique Bastille workshop, historically home to Napoleon Bonaparte's own silversmith. Best known for their 18th-and 19th-century inspired pottery, their team of twenty ceramicists (perhaps the biggest in Paris) makes each piece in a traditional style passed down through a family of generations. Starting with black terracotta, each piece is finished with a milky glaze that amplifies the unique character of the clay, celebrating its imperfections and ensuring that no two pieces are exactly alike.

Buenos Aires - Incense Box (125 sticks)

$ 50.00

Buenos Aires overflows with vitality and elegance. On a summer night, in an old, lively quarter of the city, sip a drink on the terrace of a milonga, as the figures of tango dancers sway in the darkness. And let yourself be intoxicated by the languorous rhythm of the music and the exquisite scent of white flowers carried on the warm breeze.

Subtly perfumed, Astier de Villatte's incense immediately bring our favourite places home, leaving long scented traces in their wake.

Its within the island of Awaji, due to its favourable climate, where one finds the best incense on our whole planet.

Passed from father to son, for over a thousand years, The Koh-shis or Masters of Aromas, continue using their traditional methods of fabrication. Only they can perfectly control the four steps of production: perfect dosage of exclusively natural ingredients, precious woods, herbs and plants, vegetable resins and perfume. The kneading of the paste, which is pressed and worked for lengthy periods of time, then laid out to rest for two weeks to fully absorb of the perfumes. The cutting of the paste into lengthy ribbons, rolled by hand, then left to dry in a West Wind for three days, before binding them in sheaves.

Bust Candle Collection L'Esclave - Candle 17oz

$ 250.00

Pourquoi naître esclave (Why born a slave) is the name given by sculptor and painter Jean-Baptiste Carpeaux (1827-1875) to a series of busts he created around 1870.

At the heights of his career, enjoying the protection of Napoleon III, Carpeaux was commissioned by the city of Paris to design the Fontaine de l’Observatoire and slightly modified the theme imposed on him – the four cardinal points – by replacing them with allegoric characters personifying Europe, Africa, Asia and America.

While he was working on the representation of Africa, he came up with the idea of the bust of the Négresse Captive. Obsessed with faithful representations of human movement, he sculpted his slave at an angle in order to express revolt. The story goes that the woman who posed for the bust might have also been the model of the “Capresse des colonies” by Charles Cordier in 1861.

Bust Candle Collection Marie Antoinette - Candle 17oz

$ 160.00

This little-known copy of Marie-Antoinette of Austria is attributed to one of the Brachard brothers, either the eldest, Jean-Charles-Nicolas or the youngest, Jean-Nicolas-Alexandre.

This object is an idealized portrait of the queen instead of the evocation of a sovereign at the height of her power. The head is slightly turned to the right; the shoulders are covered with a swath of fabric for a natural effect; she is wearing a crown decorated with a fleur-delis and a row of pearls.

As one of the most famous and controversial women in French History, Marie-Antoinette was the object of many artistic representations. Many valuable pieces disappeared during the French Revolution. Fortunately, some copies have survived the upheavals of time.

Bust Candle Collection Napoleon - Candle 45oz

$ 210.00

As soon as the Consulate period started, Napoleon Bonaparte (1769-1821) became aware of the importance of having his portrait shown to the French people. Thus, he initiated the edification of his own legend.

All the supports were used, from sculptures to snuff boxes and fans. The multiplicity of objects bearing the effigy of the Emperor or representing imperial symbols constituted an extraordinary tool of propaganda for the Napoleonic legend. During the Restoration, however, Bonapartists were forced to hide and prepare their revenge, spreading more and more seditious objects. The Emperor’s death in 1821 made him less dangerous in the eyes of Royalists and copies representing his main actions once again multiplied.

The Second Empire (1852) made the imperial legend official with commissions of sculptures installed in public squares and paintings exhibited in museums. Although the Second Empire reestablished the official propaganda, the fall of the regime in 1870 put an end to the celebration of Napoleon for 20 years. Nationalist fervor rose again in the 1890s and since then, he has not ceased to be a heroic figure.

It is now known that one of the most famous French productions, perfumes, was imported from Italy, with the Medici court.

"CDM is perhaps the fragrance that best represents our brand, because it expresses the search for beauty, beyond geographical boundaries and useless parochialism."

Inspired by a great Italian queen on the throne of France, CDM exudes noble scents of Florentine iris, skillfully wrapped in the warmth of amber and leather.

A perfect combination of Italian tradition and French excellence.

These handcrafted candles are enriched with precious fragrances specially created by international "noses" with a sartorial spirit. Small olfactory masterpieces, casted with artisanal methods in Made in Italy silk screen-printed glass.

The Greek key on the glass recalls the mosaic of a Roman villa of the ancient city of Sybaris. The packaging is handcrafted in Italy, in soft paper enriched with cotton fibers.
